We can't see real women... that would be disgusting!

link to full article

excerpt

You know we have a rough Spring season ahead of us when "no pants" is cited as a trend from the Fall fashion weeks.

The trouble starts when you find yourself staring at a model and you can't decide whether the designer meant for her clothing to be a bathing suit or lingerie ...
Plus, this look spells trouble for the real woman. Most of us don't have legs that go on for miles or thighs that don't touch at the top. Without both of these things, these ... should never be worn.

so impracticality aside, i like pants/skirts for the simple fact that they place a sanitary barrier between my girly bits.... actually, as the article had the nerve to say "va jay jay" I'll use the real word(s).... they place a sanitary barrier between my vagina, vulva, labia, urethra, and anus and the chair where other's vagina, vulva, urethra, and anus may have been.  I do not like swapping body fluids with strangers, whether sweat from heat, menses from menstruation, or vaginal fluids from a hot prof/TA.

but do not tell me that this is an impractical fashion trend because we do not want to see real women showing and celebrating their bodies for the simple fact that their thighs touch on top.

"women's health" i said with half assed air quotes, "because half the population is a damned special interest group. you think health of half the population would be a regular fucking concern."

a scene from my book club meeting on wednesday october 16 2008 from 6-8.30 pm.

we held the meeting early because we wanted to watch the debate.

which i watched. and watched mccain promptly put "health of the mother" in irreverent air quotes, as a phrase touted too much by the extreme pro abortion women's health sector (but not touted as much as sarah palin touts the word "maverick"... that's a touting toutable.

evidence, as i heart primary sources.

add this to a "I won't use RvW as a litmus test, but I will."

increase the rage by saying Palin is a women's role model. (I want to be a woman who refuses to allow my fellow sex/gender buddies to exercise control over their bodies... fsck it, it's just "women's health" anyways. You know, the women special interest group. Who needs them. special interest is a PC term for "disenfranchised" anyways.)

raise it to boiling by bringing up both ACORN and Ayers, then when Obama explains the situations (rather beneficial for some of us who only managed to look up the basic facts of what the hell was being discussed) rather simply (not simplistically, keep in mind)and then interrupting it with "no, that's not true"

and top it off by whining that Obama has launched "attack ads" criticizing a proposed health care plan and equating it to the rather heated lies/epithets shouted about Obama (the whole radical muslim/terrorist/communist/socialist (make up yout damn minds))... that's SO not arguing the issues,Obama ::cry cry::

(example of this point which had previously been posted on San Fransisco Republican website)

Argh!

and then! and then! To his own damn party member. He can't fscking promote Palin on HER OWN. Her strength will all be because she has a kick ass hubby.

I'm proud of her...And I can't tell how proud I am of her and her family. Her husband's a pretty tough guy, by the way, too.

And to those of you who survived to the end of my rant, John Cleese on Obama/Biden/McCain/Palin:

Article: 5 Pieces of Advice for the New Paupers

Full article here.

I've been worried about the economy's myriad aspects.  I'm a student, a home owner, and my career aspects (cultural resources) are viewed by the public as far from necessary.  I'm not related to commodities (food or mineral production), or even to vice at any level (bartender, musician, exotic dancer).  Instead, I depend on the government having enough money to enforce proper resource management on development projects, which in turn depend on agencies having been alloted the money to actually carry out said projects.

Oy veh.

John Dolan's article describes lessons he has learned in leaving grad school and entering the current economic reality.  And honestly, I forsee it as a viable possibility.  I'm only unable to get food stamps because my car is worth too much (according to this article I should sell it anyway).  The primary reason for buying a house was because it was much less then renting (and still is), but with renting when things break they get fixed.  I have the limited electrical knowledge, but lack the chutzpa to risk putting it into use as possibly frying myself or short circuiting my entire house, so I have two rooms without lights (the bathroom and the laundry room), and only two of my meager heaters work... sorta.  In the winter my house is primarily heated in sections with a transportable space heater and the oven.  Work is done in bed, with two cats cuddled under the covers against my thighs.

In fact, it is sympathetic to this exerpt from the article I'm drawing attention to:

"We had only an unheated boat, and that was not enough. We woke up to the thump of sea ice banging against the hull and realized that the old world was still very much in session. When we finally fled to stay with family, we stayed in our blankets up against their gas fireplace for weeks. You won't even want food much after a while. You'll want heat itself, not the chemical middleman. You are going to realize that cold is the most frightening thing in the world."

Yeah.  Happy winter.

brewers jam (part ii)

... continuing this at an ungodly early hour as i can't seem to sleep. Yay for bad dreams and general anxiety. Last night I had to get one of the waiters to leave us alone at the taco, he kept harassing the females at the table. Somewhere between there and here I left my purse. I think I left it at Morgan's place when his mom and I had some wine and discussed stuff/ i sobered up and calmed down over a glass of wine. i'm really really hoping i left it there. in the general annoyance of the taco i may have not noticed that i didn't have my purse, but i think that i did have it over my shoulder when we walked h and d to their car. h was the target of the waiter most of the night.

we're going elsewhere next monday. we don't need this.

now i have low battery. you know what. screw it. i'm taking a shower.

intermission from brewer's jam

So I do museum education.  I've had some rather.... dense groups for the last while.  The frustrating part is that these are all fifth and sixth graders who I thought would have had SOME exposure to the Civil War in their life.

Answers to "So what were the two sides in the Civil War" (I was looking for north/south or union/confederate or something along those lines)

French and Indian (ok, not too bad)

The British and the French

The Soviets and the US (maybe because I had mentioned "union" earlier)

The Indian and the Men  {---- my fave, i think

Answers to "Who was president during the Civil War, he's one of our more famous ones"

Ben Franklin

Brewer's Jam (part i)

This is going to be in a couple parts as I am tired and I think I'm coming down with something.

Brewer's Jam 2008.

Yay! Brewer's Jam.  I heart the beer and the people and the amusement.  This year was slightly different.  More people joined, I was there with Morgan, I met Eric's parents, and I saw someone who I totally didn't expect to see at all, really ever ever again.

The day started with giving David's ticket to Heather, at about 11:45.  On the way back Morgan and I grabbed some Krystal's for ourselves and hsi friend Tom.  We get back to Morgan's place, Tom meets us there, and as we're eating Kimberly, Shannon, and Lindsey show up.  The reason for this meeting up was because we were all returning to Morgan's place after the Jam to sober up and as there have been multiple muggings in the neighborhood, we didn't want people walking after dark to random cars.

We get there at 12:30, and after figureing out checkin and everything, we get in line and eventually make our way in.  Eric introduces us to his parents.  They're ADOREABLE!  They're shorter than I thought, though.  Heather's parents met everyone.

Eric was taking pictures for the Knoxvillle Voice, so when they get out up I'll probably try to link them. We'll see if I remember.

At 2PM we had a drink for one of my girls who had to give a paper out of state, so she missed us.

i'm helpful!

I tend to be the "helpful" friend.

No, not really, I'm just (surprised? impressed? amused?) by the two "help me"'s I've been asked for today. Probably by the way the asker approached it. I like to think that I'm helpful in general, once when the sewer exploded up one friend's second floor apartment bathtub, again when a friend's husband left, still again at random other askings.

One: I dropped a friend off at the airport at 430AM.
how this happened:
friend: "I have a favor to ask you."
me: "I'll see what I can do, what's up?"
f: "Ineedyoutodropmeoffattheairportat430thursdaymorningwednesdaynighttakeyourpick"
m: ::giggle:: "ok"

Two: Laundry for another friend (in a way)
how this happened:
friend: "question"
me: "answer"
friend: "did i wake you up?"
me: "no"
friend: "ok, that was the question, bye"
me: "really?"
f: "no, there's a leak in my apartment so they're taking out the subfloor and the water heater which means that i can't take a shower or do laundry. and it happens that today i need to take a shower and i really should do laundry..."
me: "come on over"

ha. ok, to go do work now.

Who doesn't

dexter

the other night morgan and i watched "dexter", the series on hbo.  he had somehow temporarily aquired the dvds from the first season. so we watched the first episode, excited because of all the good reviews we heard about the series.

i really didn't like it.

it seems like the potential for a good drama couched in the shock value of realistic looking dead people.

granted the porosity at the end of the long bones looked somewhat accurate (i'm not the most experianced among my crew) in the dismemberment, but really.

there was a lecture a few weeks ago for class. it was billed (in my mind) to be about the logistics of the 9/11 recovery process and forensic anthro type stuff there.  instead we got to see lots of dismembered body parts from different criminal cases.

i don't like soft tissue.

but at the same time i'm glad that physanths are able to develop the methods and technology to apply to such forensic situations in order to identify individuals and methods of body "modification".

dexter is cashing in on this.

ah well. shock shock shock.
